Dear members,
Nominations Sought for New Executive Director
The Board is currently seeking recommendations for a part-time Executive Director to assist with the Association’s administrative functions and to serve as a primary point of contact for members, other associations, and the public.
Tendering Practices
Members have reported disputes arising from UCDSB practice of not permitting any invoicing following certification of substantial performance until all deficiencies and remaining work have been completed, possibly in contravention of the new Construction Act’s requirement of prompt payment of proper invoices. The Board advises members to carefully review all Owner SGCs in relation to payment terms and welcomes reports of potentially unfair or inappropriate supplementary conditions that aim to circumvent the Act.
The Board will attempt to meet with UCDSB leadership to present member concerns about these SGCs and is seeking a legal opinion on what the Association can do on behalf of its members to address concerns like these.
Also on the topic of SGCs, the CEPEO was receptive to GCAO comments and intends to evaluate them along with CCDC documents.
The Board has also received complaints about the user-friendliness of the City of Ottawa new Ariba payment system. Prior to communicating with the City, the Board is seeking feedback from membership: please submit any comments about Ariba to the President at mswann@gcaottawa.com.
Membership
2022 membership certificates and 2022 stickers have been distributed. The Association welcomes Chandos Construction!
